- 1). Relieve the pressure from the fuel system--remove the fuel cap, unplug the electrical connector to the fuel pump switch located behind the passenger kick panel, then run the engine until it stops.
- 2). Clean off any excessive dust and dirt from the fuel line fittings with compressed air.
- 3). Detach the safety clips from the filter's inlet and outlet lines and then install a fuel line disconnect tool to the inlet port and push the tool into the coupling to release it from the filter. Repeat this for the outlet port.
- 4). Grab hold of the fuel lines and disconnect them from the filter. Fuel will likely spill from the lines.
- 5). Remove the fuel filter from its mounting clamp; make sure you know the direction it is pointing. If there is little clearance, unbolt the filter's bracket with a wrench, remove it with the filter and then separate the filter from the bracket.
- 6). Install the replacement fuel filter in place in its bracket, then bolt the bracket in place if you had to remove it. The new filter needs to face the same direction as the old one.
- 7). Push each fuel hose onto the filter until each is seated against the collars on the fittings. Install the clips on the fittings--use new clips if the old ones were damaged or distorted--and make sure they are securely attached to the hose fittings.
