How to Put Out a Trot Line

    • 1). Bait the hooks on your line with whatever bait you wish, such as gizzard shad or live worms.

    • 2). Tie one end of your trot line to a stump or a tree that is in the shallows of the water.

    • 3). Tie the opposite end of the line to a heavy object, such as a cinder block.

    • 4). Walk into the water carrying the cinder block and set it in the water so that the line is running perpendicular to the shore. Be mindful of the hooks that are on the line as you walk or swim the block out.

    • 5). Tie an empty bleach bottle to the middle of the line with a small piece of fishing line. This will act as your float.
