How to Care for Old Grape Vines

    • 1). Work on grape vines when the plant is dormant and not producing. Do not interrupt the production process of the grape vine.

    • 2). Locate the main trunk, and select four canes that will produce the fruit the next season. The shoots may be leafless or have just a few leaves on them.

    • 3). Prune the canes with pruning shears right above the lumpy nodules you will see on the branches.

    • 4). Remove any overhanging branches from surrounding trees. Grape vines enjoy direct sunlight.

    • 5). Water your grape vines once a week.
