- 1). Place a mid- to large-sized cooler 2/3 full of ice on the boat or near you on the shore. If possible, keep the cooler in a shady or cool area such as under a tree or in the boat's bow.
- 2). Place your catch in the cooler, layering fish as you catch them. Keep a layer of ice below and above each fish, alternating layers of ice and fish. The cooler is kept at 2/3 full of ice to anticipate the space the fish will take when packed in the ice.
- 3). Close the cooler lid and keep it closed during the day spent fishing. Back at shore, open the water drain valve and empty melted ice water on the ground. Buy a fresh bag of ice and add to the top of the cooler for the transport home.
- 1). Tie the live well handle cord to a boat cleat or static point on the boat and place the live well overboard.
- 2). Pull the well up onto the boat after landing a striper and open the lid of the well. The water empties out of the well when removed from the water through the holes in the well.
- 3). Quickly place the striper in the well and place the lid back on top. Lower the live well into the water and let it fill with water, keeping the striper alive in the water and trapped in the well bucket.
- 4). Put the fish from the well into an iced cooler for the drive home.
