- 1). Open the oil pan drain plug with an adjustable wrench and drain all four quarts of oil from the oil pan into a drainage pan. Place the oil pan plug back into the oil pan to prevent losing it.
- 2). Remove the bolts that secure the oil pan to the bottom of the engine block with a socket and ratchet. Even with the bolts removed, the oil pan may stick in place because of the silicone used to seal the oil pan gasket.
- 3). Slide a scraper between the oil pan and the engine block and force it around the edge until the pan breaks free from the engine block.
- 4). Slide the oil pan backward to remove it from the Camaro. Be careful of the pickup tube inside the pan.
- 5). Scrape the bottom of the engine block and the mating surface of the oil pan with a metal scraper to remove any silicone or gasket material.
- 6). Place a bead of silicone RTV gasket sealer around the mating surface of the oil pan and let it sit for 20 minutes.
- 7). Place the new gasket on top of the RTV silicone and place a second bead of RTV silicone gasket sealer on top of the gasket. Let it sit for 20 minutes before proceeding.
- 8). Slide the oil pan in place, making sure not to scrape silicone on any part of the engine or transmission as you do.
- 9). Push straight up on the oil pan and secure all four corners of the pan with bolts.

Insert and tighten the rest of the bolts in a crisscross motion, going from left to right. - 11
