- 1). Trace the vines to the location where they come out of the ground. Keep in mind that you might not deal with a single vine growing throughout your hedge. You might have several vines sprouting from the ground. To trace the origin of the vines, crouch low to the ground and look at the trunks of your bushes and the space between them.
- 2). Cut each vine off at the ground with pruning shears and then pull the vine out a foot or so and lay it in front of the hedge. Repeat this for each vine growing out of the ground.
- 3). Grip the vine at its base firmly and pull hard to remove it from the hedge. Work your way up the vine as you pull to keep your hands as close to the hedge as possible. Continue this until you completely pull the vine out of the hedge.
- 4). Cut the vine if it wraps around a trunk or branch and you cannot easily pull it off.
- 5). Place the vines into a garbage bag if they are poison vines. If not, you can place the vines in a compost pile and recycle them later.
