- According to the Dairy Council of California, the foods that contain probiotics are traditionally dairy products, including yogurt and milk. Probiotics can also be found in some soy drinks or juices. Probiotic supplements should be discussed with a doctor in advance of self-treatment.
- Probiotics can ease many intestinal disorders by destroying bad bacteria in the body, including Helicobacter pylori --- the bacteria responsible for most ulcers and many cases of stomach inflammation --- and reducing antibiotic-associated diarrhea. It is also believed to increase the immune system response, reduce allergies, prevent yeast infections and reduce cold complications.
- Read food labels to determine if the product is rich in probiotics. If the product label states "live and active cultures," then it contains probiotics. Many yogurt containers will include a seal labeled "Live Active Culture."
