Uses of Halcion

    Desired Effects

    • Halcion's desired effects are to assist in helping you fall asleep faster, and to reduce the amount of times you wake up in the middle of the night. Another effect of the medication is to enable you to sleep uninterrupted for a longer period of time in general. The medication affects the brain in order to achieve a calming and soothing feeling that helps you fall and stay asleep.

    Common Side Effects

    • Halcion can also produce some common side effects, which are generally not considered to be harmful. These include blurry vision, coordination loss and dizziness. If you have any of these side effects, and find them to be bothersome or long-lasting, you need to consult your doctor about them.

    Uncommon Serious Side Effects

    • There are several uncommon Halcion side effects as well. If you experience any of these, you need to inform your doctor immediately. They include feelings of euphoria, dreaming more vivid dreams, loss of memory, restlessness, mood or mental changes (unusual suicidal feelings, strange thoughts, agitation, nervousness, anxiety, depression and hallucinations), sweating, tremors, changes in vision and passing out.

    Severe Side Effects

    • There are also some very rare and severe effects of Halcion. If you experience any of these, you need to get emergency medical attention as soon as possible. These are abnormal paleness, unusual exhaustion, darker colored urine, the eyes or the skin becoming yellow (jaundice), and infection symptoms (like lingering sore throat and fever).

    Withdrawal Effects

    • If you stop taking Halcion, especially if you have taken the medication for an extended period of time, you might experience some uncomfortable withdrawal effects. These include muscle and stomach cramps, shakiness, unusual feelings of anxiety and depression, sweating, throwing up and seizures. One way to combat these effects is by reducing the use of Halcion in a gradual and slow manner, so as to not shock the body.
