- 1). Improve soil drainage and minimize compaction to help control fusarium root and crown rot. Wet soils with poor drainage contribute to fusarium infections, so amend heavy clay or compacted soil with coarse sand and organic matter to improve drainage.
- 2). Provide proper care to your plants, including correct fertilizing and watering. Good plant care will help strengthen the plants so that they can better resist the damaging effects of fusarium rot. Avoid over watering, which can promote fusarium fungal growth.
- 3). Prevent other stressors from weakening your plants, such as nutrient deficiencies, herbicide injuries, insect infestations and infections from other diseases. Any additional stressors can further weaken your plants and promote fusarium infections and the spread of the fungus.
- 4). Plant the previously infected soil areas with seeds pre-treated with fungicides. That can help prevent recurrences of fusarium rot infections.
- 5). Prune infected growth from shrubs and trees affected by fusarium root and crown rot. Fusarium-infected trees and shrubs can develop chronic branch dieback, and pruning and destroying the diseased limbs can help control the spread of the disease.
