When hosting a pool party which seasons of the year come to mind as the best for that activity? Summer, right? Maybe spring and early autumn, but winter? You probably never thought of it, but why not host a pool party Even if you live in an area of the country that is covered in snow or chilly temperatures, with a little planning you can host a winter bash in your backyard.
Your friends may raise a few eyebrows when they receive your winter pool party invitation but if you have a heated or indoor pool, you can most certainly host a party. Even if you don't have an indoor pool, but have a heated pool or a spa, you and your friends can make the dash through the cold to the warmth of the swimming pool. While most winter pool parties take place at indoor pools, if you and your friends are brave enough you can weather the elements and have a party.
Snowfall shouldn't deter you from hosting a summer-themed party. It will break the monotony of the bleakness of winter months. Blow up some beach balls, set up the lawn chairs and fire up the barbecue. When you send your invitations, ask your guests to bring along swimsuits, sunglasses and flip flops.
Okay, so you can't bring yourself to imagine it's no longer winter so why not incorporate the season into your pool party? Use snowmen and snowflakes for decoration. If it's close to Christmas, invest in a pine tree or two and decorate it up! Bake up holiday cookies and get out the candy canes. Add non-water related entertainment by showing movies but why not try popping popcorn out on the barbecue? Valentine's Day in the winter? Get the heart designs and red decorations out. St. Patrick's Day can still be cold and snowy in some parts of the country so host a green-themed shamrock event.
To take the chill out, set up outdoor fireplaces or rent some space heaters around the pool. Have plenty of warm beverages and hot food available for your guests.
Ever hear of a Polar Bear Swim? Many locals in the northeast, undertake what's known as a Polar Bear Plunge. During this bone chilling event, participants don their swim suits and hop into the freezing waters of the Great Lakes! If your pool isn't heated, but a few brave souls want to take a quick dip in your pool, let them try. Toss some towels into the dryer and have them heated and ready for when they get out of the water.
Why not set up an open pit fires and cook hot dogs over the fire, toast some marshmallows and make some s'mores? Check with the local fire marshal before you do this.
If your pool is closed – and we imagine it is -- rent a pool at the local gym for a few hours. There are likely indoor pools in your area or even hotels with pools that might allow you to rent it for a pool party.
Regardless of where you host your pool party, it will certainly be a unique event that your friends will remember for a long time to come.
