- 1). Open the hood by releasing the lever inside the cab of your truck. Locate the exhaust manifold.
- 2). Measure from the engine on the exhaust manifold over two inches with a tape measure and make a mark using a marker. This is where the hole will need to be drilled for the EGT probe.
- 3). Refer to your EGT probe size for the size of hole needed. Most EGT probes are 1/8-inch NPT fittings. Drill the hole at the mark in the manifold using a power drill and a drill bit.
- 4). Tap the hole in the manifold for threads using a tap tool. Refer to your EGT probe for proper thread size. The tap is inserted into the hole and rotated in a clockwise direction. This allows the tool to make threads in the manifold for the probe to be installed.
- 5). Insert a small amount of thread locker to the threads of the EGT probe. Insert the probe into the hole in the exhaust manifold. Rotate the probe clockwise and tighten using a wrench.
- 6). Route the wire coming from the probe away from the engine compartment to avoid melting the wires.
