What To Do If Your Car Fails Inspection

Many states require that your vehicle undergo either a safety inspection or an emission controls system inspection. Sometimes both. If your car or truck has failed inspection, you are probably frustrated. The first thing you need to do is to read up on your state's laws and procedures for failing the test. It varies from state to state. It could be that you failed because of something as simple as a dangling muffler.

Whether your car's OBD system is showing a fault code or your check engine light caused you to fail, you need to know what to expect when you bring the car back. Also, if you are buying a car it is a good idea to find out whether your state requires inspections. Many states have no inspection requirement at all. Use the links below to find out the specifics of your state's inspection situation, and get your car back on the road!
