Choose the Shasta daisy for a beautiful and long blooming perennial flower. Horticulturist Luther Burbank spent years developing this hybrid daisy from the wild oxeye daisies. The result is an excellent garden flower named after Mount Shasta in California. This versatile daisy with its large pure white flowers is at home both as a cutting flower and as a garden plant. It is a majestic home garden plant that grows 1 to 3 feet tall. It thrives in organic soil, full sun and regular watering during the growing season.

Plant Euroyps daisy shrubs for an amazing perennial shrub with lacy leaves and 2-inch bright yellow profuse flowers. This sturdy shrub takes heat, drought, full sun and still grows 4 to 5 feet tall. It grows best in a sandy soil with occasional deep watering. Vigorously pluck off dead flowers to maintain the best health and growth. Water the roots once a week in dry weather or when the leaves wilt. Do not water by sprinkling as these shrubs will develop fungus and other diseases. These shrubs grow well in rock gardens and as hedges. They take pruning well.

Choose the Marguerite for a fast-growing flower-laden plant that grows 2 to 3 feet tall. It is a hardy perennial that likes occasional moist soil but can survive drought-like conditions and full sun. It has very showy flowers. Pinch or cut off the dead flowers to encourage longer flowering and full foliage.

Browse the Gerbera daisies in your regional garden center for a selection of colors from white through yellow, red and orange shades. This is a popular garden plant and offers wonderful cut flowers. Some of the amazing gerbera hybrids have multi-color petals on the same flower. This annual grows up to a foot tall. Plant it in beds, window boxes or borders.

Scatter seeds of the Common or Lawn Daisy to perk up bland groundcovers. These little plants grow profusely in lawns and along roadsides. They take mowing well and are invasive in some lawns. Their pretty white and yellow flowers brighten corners and spread freely. Plant this little daisy only if you can tolerate its wide-ranging habits. And remember the words of poet D.H. Lawrence, “And what's romance? Usually, a nice little tale where you have everything as you like it, where rain never wets your jacket and gnats never bite your nose, and it's always daisy-time.” In your garden it can always be daisy time.
