How to Install a Fuel Pump on a 2000 Yukon

    • 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    • 2). Remove the gas cap. Locate the fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail. Remove the cap. Connect a fuel pressure gauge with a bleed-off valve and drain tube. Relieve the fuel pressure through the bleed-off valve and let any fuel discharge into an approved fuel container.

    • 3). Siphon the fuel from the fuel tank into an approved fuel container.

    • 4). Raise the rear of the vehicle with a jack. Support the vehicle on jackstands. Place a brick or piece of wood behind the front tires.

    • 5). Loosen the hose clamps with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the fuel filler and vent hoses off of the fuel tank.

    • 6). Disconnect the fuel supply and return lines on the underbody by squeezing the two-tab type fittings together. Pull the lines apart.

    • 7). Place a transmission jack under the fuel tank. Remove the bolts on the fuel tank retaining straps with a ratchet and socket.

    • 8). Lower the tank slightly. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel pump module. Lower the tank. Remove the tank from the vehicle.

    • 9). Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors for the fuel pump module. Pry the locking tab out. Turn the fuel pump retaining ring counterclockwise until the ring is loose.

      Remove the fuel pump. Remove the sending unit retaining clip. Pinch the tabs together. Slide the sending unit off the module.

      Pinch the tabs together. Slide the sending unit onto the new pump. Install the retaining clip.

      Lower the fuel pump into the tank. Turn the retaining ring clockwise until the ring is tight. Push the locking tab into the slot.

      Connect the fuel lines and electrical connectors to the fuel pump.

      Position the fuel tank under the vehicle. Raise the tank slightly. Connect electrical connectors to the fuel pump.

      Install the retaining straps. Tighten the bolts with a ratchet and socket.

      Push the fuel lines on the underbody together. Squeeze the two-tab fittings together.

    • 17

      Install the fuel filler and vent hoses on the tank. Tighten the clamps with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 18

      Raise the vehicle. Remove the jackstands. Slowly lower the vehicle. Connect the negative battery cable.
