- Both the Wando and Lincoln peas tolerate heat. This allows later planting of this variety, moving its growing season to the hotter part of the summer. Wando peas reach heights of up to 30 inches. This variety produces peas about 70 days after planting.
- Known for its ability to hold on the vine and not shell out prematurely, the Little Marvel is shorter and quicker maturing than many other species. Little Marvel pea plants mature to a height of about 18 inches about 63 days after planting.
- Growers have grown the Thomas Laxton pea for decades. Grown commercially and in home gardens, the pea was listed as a suggested variety for World War II victory gardens. Plants reach about 30 inches while the pods grow to about 3 1/2 inches. The cultivar Laxton's Progress tolerates heat well, making it a preferred option for warmer-climate gardeners.
- The Alaska, Super Alaska and Alaska Wilt Resistant fall into the canning category of peas. This is different from the sweet pea, which is commonly used fresh. The Alaska varieties of peas are among the earliest, ripening about two weeks earlier than other varieties.
