Ford's Recommendation

• The Motorcraft name is licensed by Ford Motor Company. Motorcraft oil is installed in all new Ford vehicles leaving the assembly line. Pennzoil works adequately in Ford engines as long as the 5W20 weight is specified for the engine. Don't worry, a secret Motorcraft oil squad won't drag you off in the middle of the night if you use Pennzoil. It's important for every engine, no matter the make, to change the oil and oil filter at recommended oil change intervals. For many car engines, an oil change is recommended every 3,000 miles.
  
  

Sales and Marketing

• Ford Motor Company recommends using only Motorcraft oil in all engines. Pennzoil insists that its oil is the best for your engine. The true difference between the oils is sales and marketing. If the oil meets the service specifications set by the American Petroleum Institute for motor oils, it's acceptable to use. • As part of the marketing effort, oils are packaged in brightly colored plastic container to attract the consumer's attention. Sometimes, oils are packaged in gallon jugs or 5 quart jugs, since most engines use 4 to 5 quarts of oil. • The two companies' exact oil formulas are closely guarded secrets; there's really no way a consumer can compare formulas. Both oils strive to exceed the API classifications. This includes adding anti-wear additives and detergent ingredients. • Automotive stores occasionally have motor oils on sale. Keep an eye on the stores' flyers and buy the oil on sale. Sometimes, the stores run a special on oil and filter combinations. Since both Motorcraft and Pennzoil are similar oils, buy the least expensive oil. If an automotive shop or mechanic changes your oil, look for a shop that is having a sale on oil changes.
