- Composed from synthetic pyrethroids, the insecticide provides control in two to four weeks against flies. Some pour-on insecticides also contain macrocyclic lactones, which offer control against internal parasites also.
- Horn flies annoy cattle and also cause significant blood loss if the fly pest population per cow becomes too high. When the horn fly population exceeds 100 to 200 flies per cow, an animal control program is warranted, according to North Carolina State University's website. Pour-on insecticide applications can offer adequate control of the flies when used solely or in combination with dust, tags or spraying.
- When using a pour-on insecticide for the control of flies on cattle, be sure to follow the application rate on the product's label. Most pour-on insecticides are measured and applied based upon the animal's body weight.
