- 1). Follow the cutter ants back to their nest. It is easier to follow leaf-cutter ants than other kinds of ants, as the insects are carrying large chunks of cut leaves.
- 2). Locate the ant nest. This is where you need to kill the cutter ants. Taking out the ant nest kills off the queen and a majority of the population. The worker ants have a short life spa,n so the few remaining not in the nest quickly die off.
- 3). Mix an insecticide with water (usually half and half, but complete mixing instructions vary and are on the side of the insecticide container) in a container, then pour the mixture over the ant nest. Completely saturate the area to ensure the mixture soaks up into the ground and all surrounding areas.
- 4). Return to the nest after a few days. If you still see movement repeat the process until all leaf-cutter ants are dead.
