Menorah is one of the prized possessions kept by every traditional Jewish family.
These exquisite and religiously important candle stands are usually handed down from generation to generation.
The candle is lighted every year on the occasion of Hanukkah Menorah, which is a festival that remembers the triumph of Jews over an oppressive dynasty.
On the day of the victory, they could not find enough oil to light the eight arms of the Menorah.
But miraculously, the little oil they could find lasted for eight days.
Thus originated the festival of Hanukkah Menorah.
The festivities continue for eight days as a symbol of the eight days of the miracle.
Only one arm is lighted a day and the whole lamp is lighted in eight days.
There is a tendency of gifting menorahs to loved ones too.
There are two types of menorahs.
The first one is the traditional ones, which are lighted using oil.
But since they can be very messy, many families opt for the second type, the electric menorah, which has a candle shaped bulb on each arm.
But if you want to follow tradition and still want to do it without fuss, lamps, which are pre-filled with oil in vials, are the best ones.
Whatever the case, Hanukkah Menorah is an inseparable part of Jewish culture and should be lit during the festival.
The number of people opting for dripless menorahs is increasing.
They have more shelf life than others because of the lack of oil spill and melted wax.
The earliest menorah dates back to the times of Moses and was made of a single block of gold.
The present day menorahs, even though smaller, cheaper and more modern, continue the tradition and culture of Jewish civilization.
This is why Jews all over the world very studiously continue to light the lamp year after year.
