- 1). Turn off your iPod by holding the "Play" button for a few seconds until the screen blacks out. Toggle the "Hold" switch, located at the top of your iPod, to its "On" position so it won't turn on accidentally as you open the case.
- 2). Place your iPod on a flat surface with its black metal facing up. Get the flathead screwdriver and insert it into the case's seam between your iPod's metal backing and its acrylic front. Continue working your way around your case, while carefully prying open every side until its back pops off.
- 3). Pry its case open about an inch or two, making sure not to open your iPod too much. Opening it completely may cause delicate wires found inside your case to get pulled out and broken. Remove the power connector near the iPod's bottom.
- 4). Remove your iPod battery from its back plate. Place your screwdriver underneath the battery and use it to slowly pry the battery away from the back plate. The soft glue holds your battery in place, so be patient while removing it.
- 5). Insert a new battery in your iPod and attach the wire from your new battery to the power connector. Seat the battery like the original one.
- 6). Close your iPod case and snap its back and front panels together. Locate the "Hold" switch at the top of your iPod and toggle it to its "Off" position. Charge the new battery.
