- 1). Set up your dial-up Internet on your primary computer. Be sure that the dial-up process works and that you can get to the Internet on that computer.
- 2). Shut down the primary computer and install the network card. If your computer already has a built-in network jack visible on the back of the computer, you will not need to install this additional card.
- 3). Turn on Internet Connection Sharing on your computer. Depending on your operating system, this may appear in different places. Check your control panel or administration panel for network and Internet connections. Each operating system will have an option there to share Internet connections.
- 4). Plug in the power cable for the router. Make sure the router is in a place where network cables from both computers can reach the router. Also make sure the router is in a place where it can get ventilation and will not overheat.
- 5). Plug a network cable from your primary computer network jack into the router. Be sure that you do not use the jack marked uplink or Internet on the router, use any other jack. Once you have plugged this computer in, your router is ready for use.
