- 1). Download, install and run Robust Software's freeware Internet Speed Booster. Click on the "Speed Booster" icon from the main program screen and select "Cable Modem" as the connection type. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the setup and then click the "Next" button to finish boosting the speed of the cable Internet connection.
- 2). Download, install and run the freeware TCP Optimizer program. Select the speed that your ISP advertises as the maximum download speed using the slider bar under "Connection Speed." Choose a Network Adapter, or click to put a checkmark in the box that says "Modify All Network Adapters" to implement the changes on all network adapters. Click on the "Optimal Settings" radio button located near the bottom of the program window. Click on "Apply changes" and follow the on-screen prompts to reboot the computer.
- 3). Download and install DrTCP, a free Internet speed tweaking program. Then go to DSLReports.com and click on "Tools" at the top right-hand area of the page. Scroll down and click on "Tweak Test," then click the "Start" button on the next page under the "Tweak Test" box. Wait while the site performs a download test, then click the "Results" button and choose "Cable" as the service. Then type in the download speed advertised by your ISP, select your operating system and click "Recommend." The site will display all sorts of data and specific settings. Run DrTCP and enter the values from the results of the Tweak Test into DrTCP to boost the cable Internet connection speed.
