A 1st birthday is a milestone for a child. It marks the ending of infancy and the beginning of being a toddler. Despite the fact that 1-year-olds are very young, they can still enjoy a birthday party. There are many ideas to choose from to celebrate baby's 1st birthday. - Decorate the party area with cloth teddy bears, pictures of teddy bears on the walls and soft brown blankets for the birthday child and guests to sit on. Sing bear-themed songs, such as "Teddy Bear Picnic" and "We're Going On A Bear Hunt." Make teddy bear ears with the children by letting them finger paint two paper ovals with nontoxic brown paint. Hold the ovals in front of a fan so they dry quickly. Hot glue the ears three inches apart onto a headband and place on the children's heads. Serve finger foods that are safe for young children, such as bananas and cooked elbow pasta. Make teddy bear cupcakes by frosting them brown and breaking a round chocolate cookie in half and placing it onto the cupcake to look like ears. Use black frosting for the eyes, nose and mouth.
- Decorate an area outside with clear balloons to represent bubbles. Fill two plastic pools with water and place rubber ducks inside. Tape a path of duck feet onto the floor that leads from the entrance of the location to the actual party area. Set up a bubble blower and have it blow bubbles at the party for the children to play with. Let the party guests sit in the plastic pools to play with the ducks. Make sure the parents know ahead of time that they need to bring a bathing suit. Serve the children food that you cut in the shape of a duck with a duck cookie cutter, such as cheese and sandwiches. Make a bathtub duck cake by cutting a rectangular section out of the middle of a rectangular shaped cake. Frost the entire cake white except for the middle hollowed out part. Place blue jello that has already set in the middle of the cake to look like water. Put a small toy duck onto the jello water.
- Hang brightly-colored streamers from the ceiling. Display number 1 cutouts around the party area. Tape pictures of the birthday child onto the wall. Set up stations to keep the birthday child and her guests busy. Suitable stations for one-year-olds include an edible playdough station and a block station. Let them rotate when they get bored. Serve foods that are the birthday child's favorites as well as hamburgers and chicken fingers for older guests. Make a cake for the birthday child by baking a cake in a one-shaped pan. Frost it in the colors you used as party decorations.
