- 1). Find your seventh vertebra and iliac crest. These are two areas on your body that the measurement needs to be taken between. Bend your head down and feel with your hands the knuckle-like protrusion at the bottom of your neck. This is the seventh vertebra. Your iliac crest is the top of your hip bones, located beneath your rib cage. Feel your bottom rib bones and move downward on your abdomen until you feel bone again. This is the iliac crest.
- 2). Measure your torso length from the seventh vertebra down to the iliac crest. Take down the measurement in both centimeters and inches.
- 3). Add 3 centimeters or 1.18 inches to your measurement if the packs are measured for a curved spine. Some pack companies base their lengths on your spine being slightly bent (when you're wearing the pack). This is called curved torso measurement and requires an extra 3 centimeters or 1.18 inches to be correct. If straight line measurement is used, you do not need to add on to the measurement you took.
- 1). Place the end of your tape measure (at 0) on the top of your shoulder.
- 2). Pass the tap measure down your back and in between your legs. Bring it up over the fullest part of your breasts to meet the other end at the top of your shoulder.
- 3). Record the measurement both in centimeters and inches.
