"Laugh like it's your last laugh; explore like it's the only thrill". Comedy and adventure are undoubtedly the best things to have happened to television. From romantic comedy series to comedy films, we love it all. After all the life with laughter is the life best lived, right?
American comedy series have been quite active in the history of television. And they continue to do so even today, across the world. But while many claimed that Americans ruled our way of living, it's right to say that they rule our laughter with their comedy series too!
But you have to agree that FRIENDS and HOW I Met Your Mother can never get old with all the humour and madness. These shows have what we can call, the characters we love and laughter that comes from within. However, the Simpsons or the Family Guy are a great bet too when in dire need for laughter. And these shows truly have no replacements!
If at all you need one, you have to switch the genre and enjoy some thrill. While reality shows have always been trendy, what have been interesting are the concepts, formats and packages that they come in!
Channels like Star World and AXN hosts a majority of adventure reality shows since ages now. Ripley's Believe it or not, Fear Factor, Wipe out, Most Dangerous were popular in this genre. This also includes a very popular adventure reality show called ‘I survived a Japanese Game Show'; however the broadcast was limited to certain countries.
In India, American shows do not enjoy the amount of popularity that a lot other channels enjoy. But shows like CSI, Alias and 24 have been quite a hit with the Indian audiences.
While 24 has been remade in an Indian version, many other adventure reality shows too have been adapted to national flavours for the Hindi speaking audience only to enjoy the local success. This includes shows like Fear Factor which was remade as Khatron Ke Khiladi on COLORS TV with many prominent face of Indian television taking up the uphill tasks as contestants and hosts in big Bollywood names like Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. However, since three seasons the show has not made a seasonal comeback.
Wipe out America, another version of what we've popularly seen as Takeshi's castle for quite some time was remade as Zor Ka Zhatka on IMAGINE TV, finding its host in Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Yet, the show failed to impress the target audience of the channel and ended with its very first season.
With so many experiments, India is still to explore the adventure reality shows segment, and how will it explore only time shall tell!
