"Arrested Development" Season 2 Episode Guide
On the first season of Arrested Development, the self-absorbed Bluth family -- father George (Jeffrey Tambor); mother Lucille (Jessica Walter); sons Michael (Jason Bateman), Gob (Will Arnett) and Buster (Tony Hale); daughter Lindsay (Portia de Rossi); Lindsay’s husband Tobias (David Cross) and daughter Maeby (Alia Shawkat); and Michael’s son George Michael (Michael Cera) -- dealt with the potential loss of their family fortune thanks to George’s embezzlement, fought over petty differences and generally behaved reprehensibly.
In the second season, George was on the run from the law, Buster had an ill-fated tour of duty in the military, Michael and Gob battled for control of the Bluth Company, and no one learned anything. Read on for the full Arrested Development season two episode guide.
Episode 1
Title: “The One Where Michael Leaves”
Original Airdate: November 7, 2004
Michael is determined to take George Michael and leave for Phoenix, but Bluth family lawyer Barry Zuckerkorn informs him that he isn’t allowed to leave the state unless he posts bail, since the police think he’s involved in George’s dealings with Saddam Hussein. Gob uncovers a document proving George’s guilt, but George, disguised as Oscar, steals the document and escapes. Tobias and Lindsay decide to try an open marriage, and Tobias auditions to join the Blue Man Group. Lucille volunteers Buster for the Army when she’s accosted by a Michael Moore-like documentary filmmaker.
Episode 2
Title: “The One Where They Build a House”
Original Airdate: November 14, 2004
With Michael still under investigation, Gob is appointed company president in name only. Michael decides that the company should build a new model home so that it looks they’re moving forward with new projects, and Gob commits to having the house finished in two weeks. To get it done quickly, Michael builds a fake house with no interior, which completely falls apart at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Lindsay starts dating a homeless man who is actually actor Thomas Jane researching a part. Buster discovers that Lucille and Oscar are having an affair. George gets arrested in Mexico.
Episode 3
Title: “¡Amigos!”
Original Airdate: November 21, 2004
Lucille hires private detective Gene Parmesan (Martin Mull), who locates George’s car in Mexico. Michael goes to Mexico to track down George, along with George Michael, Lindsay, Maeby and George Michael’s girlfriend Ann, whom they accidentally leave in Mexico. Buster attempts to escape to Mexico to avoid joining the Army, but instead ends up at the home of Bluth family housekeeper Lupe. Gob, thinking Michael is fleeing the country to avoid the law, hires bounty hunter Ice (Malik Yoba) to follow him.
Episode 4
Title: “Good Grief”
Original Airdate: December 5, 2004
Ice tells the Bluths he’s discovered that George was killed in Mexico, so the family plans a wake for George. But George has actually faked his death, and George Michael hides him in the attic of the model home. The family keeps the news of George’s death from Buster, so he won’t be traumatized. Ann dumps George Michael, but Michael inadvertently helps them get back together. When the family discovers that George is alive, Michael helps George fake an escape, so that everyone but Michael thinks he’s on the run again.
Episode 5
Title: “Sad Sack”
Original Airdate: December 12, 2004
Michael meets with the new prosecutor in his father’s case, who pressures Michael to turn George in. George promises to leave forever if he determines that Lucille really is in love with Oscar. The prosecutor uncovers evidence that he believes ties George to the cover-up of WMDs in Iraq, but it turns out to be close-up photos of Tobias’ testicles. Michael refuses to give up his father’s location, and even though George discovers that Lucille really does love Oscar, he decides to stick around. Lindsay attempts to seduce Maeby’s high-school crush Steve Holt.
Episode 6
Title: “Afternoon Delight”
Original Airdate: December 19, 2004
At the Bluth Company Christmas party, Gob is excited for the employees to toast him, but they actually hate him for his arrogance and incompetence, and he gets mad and fires them all. Michael then throws a second party at the recently reconstructed banana stand in order to lure the employees back. Buster is set to begin his Army service, but gets sidetracked on his way to the base. Lucille is distraught when Oscar leaves on a walkabout, and Michael has to get him back so that his mother will calm down.
Episode 7
Title: “Switch Hitter”
Original Airdate: January 16, 2005
Michael and Gob meet with Bluth Company rival Stan Sitwell (Ed Begley Jr.), whose company softball team is about to play the Bluths. When Gob rejects Sitwell’s offer of corporate synergy, Sitwell offers him a job. Michael feeds Gob ideas so he can succeed at his Sitwell job, and Michael can return to being president of the Bluth Company. At the softball game, Michael loses the game but finally wins his father’s approval. Maeby accompanies Tobias to an audition and inadvertently cons her way into a job as a movie studio executive. Lucille attempts to save Buster from being sent away to war.
Episode 8
Title: “Queen for a Day”
Original Airdate: January 23, 2005
When the Bluth Company stock is unfrozen, Lucille, Gob and Lindsay all sell some of their shares so they can make frivolous purchases, and the family loses control of the company to Lucille Austero (Liza Minnelli), who now holds a controlling interest. At first Michael pushes Buster to renew his relationship with Lucille Austero, but then he realizes that Buster is much happier in his new romance with company secretary Starla. With Lucille Austero in charge, Gob gets reappointed as president, following his termination from Sitwell (and thanks to the fact that he’s sleeping with her). Tobias purchases a drag-queen bar called the Queen Mary.
