In the late 1970's, John Travolta was the coolest guy in Hollywood.
From his role on "Welcome Back Kotter", to his role in "Saturday Night Fever," Travolta was the man.
But it was "Grease," the movie, that showed the world what he could really do.
Also starring Olivia Newton-John, Grease became the movie that defined a generation.
The movie was set during the 1950s, focusing on a high school and a group of kids that defied the rules.
It centered around a greaser boy named Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and a sweet girl from Australia named Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) who meet over the summer and fall in love.
It's only when the school year begins that Sandy gets to know the real Danny Zuko.
The movie also stars Stockard Channing as Rizzo, a sassy girl who's not afraid to speak her mind or to live dangerously.
She falls for the leader of the T-Birds, Kenickie (Jeff Conway), and ends up the talk of the school when rumors fly that she has become an unwed mother, which was seen as an abomination at that time.
The movie has grossed more than $390 million dollars over the years, and until recently was the highest grossing musical of all time.
The movie was nominated for 5 Golden Globe Awards, while the soundtrack to the movie hit number one in several countries.
It was also set as one of the top 25 best high school movies of all times.
In 1982, a sequel to "Grease" was released to less than rave reviews.
Due to the impact of the original movie, producers had planned on making at least one more movie and there was even talk of a television program.
However, because the second movie did so poorly, all other plans ceased.
Though it's been 30 years since the release of the original movie, "Grease" is still one of the all-time best movies on the market.
It gave rise to many talented actors and brought the age of innocence to an entire generation.
