- 1). Lay a few garbage bags over your work surface to protect it from spills.
- 2). Set aside one newspaper to form the armature of the torso; tear the remaining newspaper into ragged strips.
- 3). Separate the remaining newspaper into its sections. Crumble the sections into ovals and balls.
- 4). Tape the crumpled paper into a torso shape using lengths of masking tape. You will want to form a rough pyramid: the widest port for the torso's shoulders, thinning down to where it would connect to hips. Press and shape the taped form as you work. This creates the armature around which you will build the paper-mache torso.
- 5). Mix the water, flour and glue in the glass bowl using the wooden spoon. Wash the spoon immediately after mixing.
- 6). Dip the torn strips of newspaper into the glue mixture and lay them around the taped armature. Crisscross the strips as you work. As you cover the torso, you can build in details of the torso, if desired, such as a belly button or creepy-looking wounds.
- 7). Allow the torso to dry overnight.
- 8). Paint the torso, as desired, using the poster paints and brush. For a realistic-looking torso, mix flesh-toned colors and then gory reds and purples for the wounds -- or get creative, and use whatever colors you would like.
