Sunflowers make bright and simple crafts at a birthday party. The website Making Friends describes how to make paper sunflowers. Use empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, wooden skewers, small sheets of cardboard, yellow, brown and green markers or crayons, glue sticks, play dough, and pebbles or marbles. Cut the paper towel rolls into two-inch sections. Cut one-inch snips around the ring at about half-inch intervals. Fold back the cut sections to make flower petals. Color these yellow. Use the uncut end of the tube to draw circles on a piece of cardboard. Cut the circles inside the traced lines and color them orange. These are the middles of the sunflowers. Draw leaves on cardboard. Color the leaves green. Paint the skewers green to serve as stems.
Poke a hole in the bottoms of the flowers. Draw the skewers into the flowers' holes. Glue to keep in place. Glue the flower middles to the middle of each yellow flower and the leaves to the stems.
Add a vase for the flowers. Use a glass to draw circles on cardboard. Glue a toilet paper tube to the circles. When the glue is dry, color the vase any color you like and decorate with designs. Drop play dough into the vase, and stick the skewers into the clay. Finish by dropping pebbles or marbles to surround the stems. - Keep the children happy doing flower crafts.flowers image by tamdesigns from Fotolia.com
Paper plates and construction paper make colorful flowers that are easy and fun to make. The Enchanted Learning website offers instructions for paper plate flowers. Provide glue sticks, dinner paper plates, construction paper and scissors. Give each child several pieces of different-colored construction paper. Tell the children to trace their hands in three different colors at least ten times. Either hand will do. Cut out the hand prints. Lay one set of colors with fingers pointing outward around the inside of a paper plate. Glue in place to make flower petals. Repeat with two more layers of different colors on top of the first set at staggered intervals. Cut out small circles to glue in the center of the flowers. - Place cards add a personalized touch at a birthday party making children feel grown up. Follow these Enchanted Learning instructions for an entertaining birthday party craft. Pass around colored construction paper, children's scissors, and markers or crayons. Have the paper already divided into six equal rectangles. Tell the children to cut out the sections. Let them choose the color of paper they want. Have the children fold the cut-out sections in half. Instruct the children to draw small flowers with leaves and stems on paper of a color that is different from the place card color. They will write their names on one side of the folded card and glue their flowers around their names. They can put their personalized flowery place cards where they are seated.
