Halloween has a history in our country and we know the traditions.
We know about the Trick-or-Treating, about the decorations and Jack-o-Lanterns and we know about fancy dresses and costumes.
And we know that Halloween is a special time for kids and that they look forward to the witches night.
Dressing up in a scary costume or turning into a pirate, a zombie, a ghost, a transformer or any of the hundreds of alternatives is one of the greatest pleasures you can give your child.
Among the many things this provides is the chance to really make belief.
Everyone should agree that letting your kids imagination surface is good for them.
For many reasons allowing their creativity to fly is an experience that provides self-confidence, allows them to still think out of the box, to share with others and express themselves.
Halloween is the perfect scenario for play and the need to play is ingrained in all children (luckily in most adults as well) as it not only takes them away from standardized ways of doing things, it is also the best educational process yet invented.
Children need to dream and make belief and here is where pirates and lost boys, Davy Jones and Captain Sparrow, provide them with a perfect way of doing so.
Costumes are magical in that way.
A pirate with his sword, boots and buckles and perhaps an eye-patch and telescope brings to the fore another world, where you look for treasures, walk the plank and save your friends.
It is world where you can sacrifice yourself and still become the hero to talk about it.
Where the imagination brings up the sounds of the sea, the tricky accents and the boom of the cannon.
Where you can actually see the ocean, the ship, the beach and the map with a great big "X" and little feet drawn on it.
Where the smell of gun powder and the songs go together.
A pirate costume and Halloween is the perfect excuse for kids to dream - and that costume will be used again and again.
It is part of childhood and the making of memories that live on inside us.
