Very few can live without the Net these days. For almost all of us, it has become a need that is as central to our life as food and drink.
Not so long ago, all of us used traditional modems to connect with. Theoretically, the modem could go 56 kbps, but in real life it was much slower. I was lucky if I got more than 20-25 kbps, so there was always time to go and get a cup of coffee while the next homepage was loading.
Luckily it doesn't demand as much patience to go online as it used to. These days most of us have broadband internet, so we can go online with speeds from 512 kbps and upwards. Based on your location, you can easily be surfing the Internet with more than 2.000 kbps - or 100 times faster than I were with my classic modem.
The net has changed in many ways because of our broadband. These days, websites doesn't consist of text alone. Most often there are also photos, drawings and maybe even a video.
Especially videos are a very nice addition to the net, since live pictures makes it much easier to talk about complicated subjects. Just think about how complicated it is to tell how to repair an engine using text alone and how easy it is with a video.
In the near future, we will be surfing the net with even faster connections. The fastest connections for sale in my part of the country are approx. 20.000 kbps, but I will not be surprised if I start to see 100.000 kbps connections for sale within a year or two.
In addition, we will probably begin to go online with more and more mobile devices. We will therefore see many mobile broadband offers in the coming years. Excellent if you want to go on the Internet in many different locations, but don't forget that mobile broadband is slower than traditional cable broadband.
But I hope that maybe one day we will have a combination of the advantages of both types of broadband connections. A mobile broadband offer with the excellent speed of cable broadband. That would truly be wonderful, because then you would not need to worry about what type of broadband connection to buy.
But let us not think about things that have not yet come into existence. Today, you still must choose between cable and mobile broadband connections - and only you know what is the best choice for your needs. Will you value speed or mobility?
