- Massage stimulates rejuvenation of the skin of the face and body. An esthetician or massage therapist can perform movements using her hands, elbows and forearms. She can use machines and instruments, such as brushes and rollers, to massage deep into the body's tissues.
- As the therapist massages the skin, circulation and blood flow increase. This stimulates the body to produce new skin cells and improve muscle tone, which promotes young, radiant skin. Other benefits include increased flow of the lymph, which detoxifies the body. A therapist can show you techniques that you can use at home.
- Certain clients should not have massage treatments that encourage flow in the lymphatic system. According to endocrinologist Bruno Chikly, M.D., this includes people with in infections or inflammation, serious circulatory or cardiac problems and cancer patients. Do not massage skin with rashes, cuts, wounds or infections.
