- 1). Mark the end of the drill bit by scratching it with the tip of a sharp screw. Clamp the drill bit in a vise horizontally so that the butt end of the drill bit is sticking out of the vise.
- 2). Holding the wheel of the hand grinder above the mark on the bit, slowly lower the cutting edge of the wheel to the bit.
- 3). Push down on the grinder as it begins to throw sparks from the bit. Hold steady pressure until the wheel cuts the end off of the bit.
- 1). Mark the end of the drill bit with a sharp screw. Clamp the bit horizontally in the vise so that the butt end of the bit is sticking out of the vise.
- 2). Hold the blade of the hacksaw on the mark, and pull the handle back toward your body. Put the blade back where it was, and pull back again to make a small cut in the drill bit.
- 3). Saw back and forth, deepening the cut, until the saw passes through the bit.
