- 1). Measure the coat hanger from the bottom of the hook, around the two bends and back to the hook using a dressmaker’s tape measure. Round up to the next inch. Jot down this number.
- 2). Cut two 1-inch wide strips of decorative fabric 6 inches longer than the length of the hanger.
- 3). Fold the edges of each strip under by ¼ inch and iron to create a crisp seam.
- 4). Place the two strips with wrong sides together and pin them with dressmaker’s pins.
- 5). Top stitch the long edges of the strips together to form a long tube.
- 6). Untwist the coat hanger with a pair of pliers. Beginning with the straight end of the hanger, thread the wire through the fabric tube. Gather the fabric as you go. Stop at the point where the coat hanger meets the curved hook.
- 7). Twist the wires together to reform the coat hanger.
- 8). Repeat the procedure for cutting and sewing fabric to cover the hook. Fabric to cover the hook should be 2 inches longer than the length of the hook.
- 9). Close one end of the tube for the hook by turning the edge under and stitching by machine.

Thread the fabric over the hook. Tie decorative ribbon or fabric in a bow and attach to the point where the hook meets the hanger to conceal raw seams.
