How to Grow a Hoya Indoors

    • 1). Place your hoya in the brightest room of your home. Keep it out of direct sun during the hottest hours of the day. If you are able to do so, provide the plant with a couple of hours of direct morning or late afternoon sunlight daily for best results.

    • 2). Keep your hoya in a warm spot at about 60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit during the growing season. Move it to a cooler 50- to 55-degree location during the winter months.

    • 3). Soak the indoor hoya thoroughly until water runs out the drainage holes. Keep the soil surface barely, but evenly, moist throughout the growing season. Use warm water and don’t allow the soil to be soggy or wet. Never allow this plant to stand in water. Decrease watering frequency during fall and winter to allow the soil to dry out slightly before you water again.

    • 4). Feed this plant a good liquid fertilizer for houseplants monthly throughout the growing season. Dilute the solution by half. Follow the packaging instructions carefully.

    • 5). Hang the hoya outside in a bright spot sheltered from harsh sunlight on nice warm days. It appreciates the fresh air and natural light.

    • 6). Clip damaged and dead vines off as they may occur with clean, sharp pruning shears. Prune back excessively long vines just above a leaf node without leaving a stub, if you wish. Some gardeners prefer to wrap long stems around the pot or intertwine them with basal stalks. Never deadhead this plant after it has flowered, as you remove the next round of blooms that are forming.
