- Microwaves pass through the glass to heat the food within, making glass an excellent container for microwave ovens. Pyrex glass is particularly heat resistant.
- Micro-air bubbles in glass may expand as glass heats, causing it to break or shatter. One way to test the glass is to microwave the empty container for one minute. If it gets hot, it's not microwave safe. If the glass is warm, it is safe to use. If the container is cool, it is completely microwave-friendly.
- Do not put any glass container that has a metallic trim into the microwave. Metals cause sparks and can mar or break the glassware. Also, any glassware with a coating or decorative finish should not be used unless it is specifically marked as microwave safe.
