How to Replace the Belt on a Sears Kenmore Dryer

    • 1). Unplug the dryer from the electrical socket.

    • 2). Pull the lint screen out of its compartment on the top of the dryer. Remove the two screws located next to the lint screen compartment.

    • 3). Insert the putty knife blade into the gap under the top panel in the front of the dryer. Press the putty knife into the clips on the left and right ends of the panel to release them. Lift the top panel up and rest it on its hinges.

    • 4). Unscrew the screws along the top panel securing it to the cabinet, if present. Lift the front panel up to disengage it from the base. Disconnect the electrical plug leading into the door switch assembly. Set the front panel aside.

    • 5). Pull the idler arm toward the front of the dryer to loosen the belt. Slide the old belt off the drum and pulleys.

    • 6). Install the new belt around the drum. Loop the other end of the belt around the pulleys. Move the idler arm toward the back of the dryer until the belt is tight.

    • 7). Replace the front panel. Hook the electrical connector into its socket. Replace the screws along the top of the front panel.

    • 8). Lower the top panel onto the Kenmore dryer cabinet. Replace the screws next to the lint filter compartment.
