- 1). Position a propane tank securely beside or under the appliance it will fuel. Set the propane tank in the support cradle, if one is available, and secure it to the frame of the appliance with the cylinder lock. Turn the propane tank so that the valve-opening faces the propane hose extending from the appliance.
- 2). Remove the protective plastic cap from the propane tank valve.
- 3). Connect the propane hose to the valve on the propane tank. Align the regulator coupling on the end of the propane hose with the tank valve. Thread the coupling onto the valve and hand-tighten it.
- 4). Test for leaks. Mix a few drops of liquid soap or dish detergent with water in a small container. Apply a small amount of the soapy water mixture around the coupling and fitting.
- 5). Turn the propane control valve on top of the cylinder to the left, or counter clockwise. Watch for signs of bubbles forming around the connection point of the coupling and fitting.
- 6). Turn off the control valve and tighten the coupling further by hand. Apply soapy water to the coupling and fitting, turn the control valve on and watch for bubbles.
- 7). Wipe the soapy water from the coupling and fitting with a damp rag.
