How to Change Hairstyles for Men

    • 1). Consider the image you need to present at work. Write down three adjectives that describe the way you'd like people to see you. When considering potential hairstyles, ask yourself if they bring to mind those three adjectives.

    • 2). Look at different people with your build and face shape. Decide which of their hairstyles you think look good. If you find someone with a similar face and build, you'll be able to have a better idea of what the style would look like on you. This is also a great way to find hairstyles to avoid.

    • 3). Print a photo of yourself, then cut out hairstyles from magazines and hold them on top of your head. It's a simple way to get a basic idea of what a style would look like on you. If you find one particularly striking, you should ask the stylist for a similar cut.

    • 4). Ask for opinions from your stylist, your significant other and any other important people in your life. Sometimes the people you know have great ideas for looks that you never would have considered without asking them for their advice. Your stylist, especially, is likely to know that men with square faces, for example, should aim for a cut that enhances the look of the square shape.

    • 5). Go with your instinct. If everyone you ask is recommending a crew cut, but you know you'd prefer something a bit longer, do what feels right for you. You will be the one wearing the hairstyle day after day. Don't fret over the change--you can always grow more hair and try a different style in a few weeks.
