- 1). Clean the boots off with a stiff brush. Soap or another cleaning detergent isn't necessary, unless the boots are particularly dirty. When all dirt and grime have been loosened from the boots, rinse them off and dry with a soft cloth.
- 2). Apply mineral oil to the scuffed portions of the boots as thinly as possible with a paper towel or soft cloth. Allow this to dry slightly, then wipe off the excess. Using too much mineral oil can actually thin the dye on certain kinds of materials.
- 3). Use a matching polish on the scuffed areas, applying it in circular motions until the tackiness of the polish disappears. This can be finished with a soft brush and a cloth to make sure no residue remains on the boots.
