- Relatively common side effects of this amino acid include diarrhea and stomach ache. These side effects usually fade quickly, but if you have either of them and find them to be especially problematic or persistent, notify your physician of the situation.

- Some medications and dietary supplements could lead to drug interactions with lysine. One example is calcium. Lysine can raise the levels of how much calcium can be absorbed by the body. Because of this, users of lysine are advised against taking large doses of lysine and calcium simultaneously.
