- 1). Clean all the spoon gourds thoroughly. Lay them out on a towel or paper towels to dry.
- 2). Lay out newsprint at each workstation where you will have a child paint a miniature pumpkin face.
- 3). Use an orange base coat on each spoon gourd if you want to make it look as much like a regular Halloween pumpkin as possible. The normal color of spoon gourds is orange or yellow and green, with the green usually on the tip of the knob end of the gourd.
- 4). Lay out paintbrushes and tempura for each of the children. If you have multiple children involved in the decorating party, it will likely be much less messy if you have a small set of paints for each rather than single large pots of paint for all to use. You can use any set of colors you like, but you should at least have orange, black and yellow.
- 5). Dress the children in aprons or old shirts that you won't mind if they ruin with the paints. If they are old enough, let them have at it and paint their own little pumpkins. If they are still very young, help each of them to make and paint a Halloween pumpkin design.
