How to Do Men's Braids

    • 1). Wash and dry the man's hair. Always start with clean, dry hair to get the best-looking braids. Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner if his hair is dry and brittle.

    • 2). Use the rat-tail comb to part off a small section of hair, starting from the temple on one side of the head and going all the way back to nape of the neck. Make a straight part or for a more stylish look, or part the hair in a way that makes a certain design in the man's hair. Clip the rest of the hair out of the way until you are ready to work with it.

    • 3). Moisturize the section of hair. Use oil-based, water-based or a grease-type moisturizer. Avoid moisturizers with an alcohol base; they tend to dry out the hair more than they moisturize. Also, stay away from thick or heavy moisturizers because they will make hair hard to grip.

    • 4). Separate the front part of the parted-off portion of hair into three small, equal sections. Take the middle section and wrap it around the right section, pulling it behind all of the sections and placing it on the left side. What was the left section is now the middle section. Take the middle section and wrap it around and behind the left section, pulling it over until it is now on the right side. Continue this pattern, gradually gathering more hair into smaller sections, while working your way back to the end of the parted-off section. Braid the hair where the hair ends and then secure the braid with a rubber band.

    • 5). Part off another section of hair and repeat the braiding process until all of the hair is braided.
