- 1). Place the bundle of evergreen clippings on a large work surface. Evergreen clippings can be purchased at a Christmas tree farm or gathered from your yard. Cut the branches into 6- to 8-inch pieces using a pair of pruning shears. Some of the pieces will end up being uneven or thin. This is fine, as they will be grouped together.
- 2). Cut 18 pieces of floral wire, 15 inches in length, with a pair of wire cutters. Set them in a pile near the work space. Place the 16-inch wire wreath frame face up on a flat surface. Floral wire and wreath frames can be purchased at craft stores or floral shops. You may want to use a smaller wreath frame depending upon the size of the area where the wreath is to be hung.
- 3). Gather four to five evergreen pieces in a bunch with the woody stems together. Place the thicker, heavier pieces toward the back of the bunch. Hold the arranged stems together with one hand and and lay the bunch on the wire frame. The tips of the branches should naturally curve off the frame. Lay a 15-inch piece of floral wire across the stems about 2/3-inch from their ends. Hold the wire, stems and frame together and flip the frame over. Bring the wire ends around to the back of the frame and twist them together tightly.
- 4). Create another grouping of evergreen stems, this time adding a sprig of holly on top. Place this bunch of stems on the wreath frame so it is overlapping two-thirds of the first group of stems. All stems should be pointing in the same direction. Secure the branches in place with a strip of floral wire. Continue to wire groupings of branches to the frame until it is completely covered. Add a sprig of holly to every second or third bunch. You will need approximately 12 bunches to cover the frame.
- 5). Wire pine cones, berries and glass balls to your wreath with strips of floral wire. Add these decorations in groups of three evenly around the wreath. Be careful not to overpower the wreath with too many accessories.
- 6). Cut a 24-inch piece of ribbon and tie a large bow. Thread one end of a 15-inch piece of floral wire through its center. String a bell onto one end of the wire so it is positioned underneath the bow. Twist the wire two to three times at the back of the bow. Attach the bow to the top or bottom of your wreath with the remaining ends of wire.
- 7). Thread a 6- to 8-inch piece of wire through the back of the wreath frame at the top. Twist the ends together to form a loop. Hang your wreath on a nail or wreath hanger by this loop.
