Most tourists who visit the city of Chester do so in the space of a day, because it is very close to the Welsh city of Cardiff, while London or Liverpool are only between 40 minutes and 60 minutes away. The city of Chester and its downtown area is a very important cultural and historical city for tourists to discover.
There are some absolutely stunning attractions located in the city centre, close to many Chester City Centre hotels. The cathedral and its amazing structure is certainly the number one site in the settlement. However, what about other activities and tours? Is there anything else available?
Are tourists looking for a way to explore the sights and sounds and activities of Chester in the space of a day? Well they are in luck, because the following list highlights possible activities and tours that visitors can enjoy while seeing Chester in one day!
1st €" Arrive in the early morning and head straight to the city walls, which are the ancient Roman walls that were significant during the Roman occupation of England. The walls still stand prominently today, with several massive gates sparkling around the city centre. The entire length of the wall is about three kilometres, so visitors can easily stroll the wall and take in the information in under two hours.
2nd €" Once the walls and the large gates of the Roman Wall have been seen, it is time to move onto another of the historical sites of the city; the Chester Cathedral. This remarkable building was constructed in AD70, and apart from the renovations of its main fa§ade, has remained largely untouched. This is extraordinary when considering that the entire city was almost ruined by King Henry VIII during the 14th century.
3rd €" Next item on the list is the district known as The Rows. The area is filled with fascinating terraced housing that were built with both Victorian and Tudor influences. It is not too far from the Chester Cathedral, and contains many shops and restaurants. This means lunch can be had, and while visitors are at it, spend a bit of their budget on shopping.
4th €" After lunch, it is time to relax a little and spend some time exploring the outdoors of downtown Chester. A great place to do these things is the Groves. This stunning green space is a riverfront park that was designed in the 19th century, and contains so much space to explore, jog, and simply relax.
5th €" After the Groves park has been explored, it is time to jump on a boat and travel up the River Dee. Boats can be hired for private use, and include everything from paddle boats, to row boats to small motorised dinghies. However, the most popular activity is the boat tour, which can be organised through several boat companies along the river. Cruises usually last from 30 minutes to over an hour.
6th €" By this time, the sun may be getting ready for bed, so if tourists are up for some more exploring, there are more options available. Before the night sets in, head to one of the local pubs for an ale or two. The best pubs are the traditional spots like the Albion in the centre of the city.
7th €" Finally, it is best to finish off a day of activities in Chester with a spectacular ghost tour. You heard! There are several ghost tours available, taking patrons to some amazing sites. Some of the sites visitors may have already seen during the day€¦but at night€¦things begin to change! Spooky right?
