DIY Tank With No Sewing

    • 1). Lay the T-shirt out flat onto a work surface like a table, counter or floor. Smooth any wrinkles out by hand to aid in making a clean cut. If the T-shirt is extremely wrinkly, iron it before working on it.

    • 2). Cut the arms off the T-shirt, following the existing seams. For a slouchier fitting tank top, cut the arm holes an inch in from the seams.

    • 3). Refine the newly made holes by cutting straight down from the top of the shirt, following the existing cut for 6 inches, then cutting a semicircle at the bottom, flaring out to create the familiar tank top shape.

    • 4). Put the shirt on to determine if the fit is correct in the arm holes. If not, remove the shirt and continue trimming the arm holes until you have the desired fit. While you have the shirt on, notch the neckline where you want the new neckline to extend.

    • 5). Lay the shirt back out on the work surface, smoothing it down. Cut the neck hole, starting about 1/2 inch out from the existing neckline, following a circular shape, ending at the notch you created. Continue on the other side of the neck, starting at the top and working back down to the notch.

    • 6). Fold the shirt in half and line the arm holes up to verify that your cuts are symmetrical. Check the neck hole for symmetry by holding the shirt up and opening it, flattening it on its side. If there are any uneven lines, trim them.

    • 7). Try on the tank top to make sure that both of the sleeve holes are where you want them and that the neck hole is the right width. Adjust as needed.
