- 1). Pop the hood and pick an ignition coil that is close to you. Disconnect the electrical connection to the coil using your hands and then unbolt the ignition coil from the engine. Pull it up by the base with your hands, using a twisting motion to remove the coil.
- 2). Unbolt the spark plug from the cylinder head using the 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and spark plug socket. Discard the old plug.
- 3). Gap the spark plugs using the spark plug gapping tool. To do this, you want to place the gapping tool between the two electrodes at the top of the spark plug and make sure the distance between the two electrodes is 0.054 thousandths of an inch.
- 4). Install the replacement spark plug into the cylinder head using the ratchet and spark plug socket. Then reinstall the coil pack and bolt it in place using the ratchet. Plug the ignition coil wiring back into the coil.
- 5). Proceed to the next ignition coil on the head and repeat the process for each plug, working on each individual coil and plug at a time so you don't get them confused.
