- 1). Locate the "Reset" button on the cable modem. Depending on the brand of cable modem, the button may be located on the back or front of the modem or the modem may not have a "Reset" button at all. The "Reset" button is often an indented button.
- 2). Press the "Reset" button on the cable modem using the tip of a paperclip or pen.
- 3). Hold the "Reset" button down for approximately five seconds and then release it. The modem will restart and reset itself.
- 1). Shut down any computer connected to the cable modem or unplug the router that connects to the modem.
- 2). Disconnect the modem power supply from the wall outlet. Leave it unplugged for approximately one minute.
- 3). Reconnect the power supply to a wall outlet and allow the modem to restart.
- 4). Restart any computers connected to the cable modem or reconnect the router to a power outlet.
