- 1). Locate a CGI proxy website. The easiest way to do this is to go to a site that lists or reviews these proxies. A few sites that list CGI proxies are listed in the Resources section below for your convenience. One of the more popular choices is proxy.org, which lists, and constantly updates, thousands of CGI proxy sites.
- 2). Point your Web browser to the website for the proxy. Unlike manual proxy servers, CGI proxies operate on websites, eliminating the need to manually configure the settings on your Web browser.
- 3). Locate the address bar for the proxy. Once you are on the proxy website, you will want to locate the address bar. This is where you type the URL of the website you wish to visit (i.e. the blocked website). On a free CGI proxy, there are probably a number of advertisements that you will have to scroll past before you get to the address bar.
- 4). Type the address of the site you want to visit. Simply type the URL into the address bar and click the go button. A new page on the CGI proxy will load. It will have a tiny strip of the proxy page at either the top or bottom of the screen, and will load the page you want to see on the rest of the screen. Since the computer network thinks you are still surfing on the proxy site, which is not in the blocked sites list, you can view the site you want without being effected by network restrictions.
