Spring training site
Clearwater, Fla.
2009 record
93-69, won NL East, won NL pennant, lost World Series
Manager
Charlie Manuel, sixth season
New faces
RHP Roy Halladay (trade, Blue Jays), 2B-3B Placido Polanco (free agent, Tigers), RHP Danys Baez (free agent, Orioles), C Brian Schneider (free agent, Mets), RHP Jose Contreras (free agent, Rockies), 1B Ross Gload (free agent, Marlins), IF Juan Castro (free agent, Dodgers), OF Brad Wilkerson (free agent, did not play last season)
Biggest offseason acquisition
Halladay, a six-time All-Star, leaves the American League and takes over at the top of a very good starting rotation. It could be a potentially great one, provided a couple of youngsters come through.
Gone but not forgotten
LHP Cliff Lee (trade, to Mariners), 3B Pedro Feliz (free agent, to Astros), RHP Pedro Martinez (free agent, not signed), RHP Brett Myers (free agent, to Astros), RHP Chan Ho Park (free agent, to Yankees), OF Matt Stairs (free agent, to Padres), IF Miguel Cairo (free agent, to Reds), RHP Clay Condrey (free agent, to Twins), LHP Scott Eyre (retired), C Paul Bako (free agent, not signed)
Best spring training battle
Does Jamie Moyer have enough left in the tank for another season of left-handed soft-tossing? He and right-hander Kyle Kendrick, 22 years his junior, are in a good fight for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation.

Biggest strength
They have the best lineup in the league and the best starting rotation. Pretty darn good combination. If the key components stay healthy, they are the National League favorite in a landslide.
Glaring weakness
The Phillies continue to have a lot of faith in Brad Lidge, who was sensational in 2008 and sensationally bad in 2009 with 11 blown saves and a 7.21 ERA. He had knee and elbow surgery in the offseason and probably won't be ready when the season begins. The big question - if Ryan Madson does exceptionally well in the first few weeks, does Manuel immediately move Lidge back to closer?
